At 2:01 today I...

was doing what I always seem to be doing. Looking for music to play on my uke, surfing the net for uke songs to play and noodling around trying to master the dreaded E chord. God, my poor old fingers.

Oh and E minor is doing my head in as well...

killmenow

Anyway, I seem to be drawn to songs that are written for the ukulele from the 20's and songs with fun little chord progressions (hoo boy, don't I sound like a musician right now?). These are the two I got today. They are so great to play:

Have a great day! I know I will...

Photo dump!

God, that sounds so awful. Let's try: I have no idea what to post so why don't I make all my readers sit through a bunch of pictures I forgot I took like a 1970s slide party.

Yup, that's better.

This is the extent of my "sexting". Scott was away and I was saying goodnight

The blueberry pie I made for Easter dessert

The inevitable dance party ending of a Mexican Easter dinner. We went just for drinks and we ended up dancing until I threw out my back. I'm still in pain.

Audrey felt like a blowout. So weird with straight hair!

About an hour in. Look at the look on her face.

Scott came with me to BUG Night! He played Rosie while I played Melody

Quick visit to Montreal and I visited the church where I was christened (and lit a candle for my mum)

Audrey and I on our weekly date

Trying on Borscht Belt comedian glasses at the Vintage Clothing Show

I just do *not* have a hat head

Pub lunch. Can I just mention that her hair here is the *same exact length* as in the blowout photo above? This is how curly it is.

Just seconds before she fell out of the tree.

Okay, so Henry (and Scott) just bought a go-cart. What is happening to the babies I had?

Painting in my class. Not allowed to show faces so ponytails it is.

Everytime I see a patio set I like I take a photo then promptly forget that I did. It's probably gone by now.

Can you feel the love? My class ROCKS.

at 2:01 today I...

was getting ready to go back to work. I've been off for over a week to celebrate Passover. I was researching activities and ideas to implement in my classroom in the coming weeks all based on the themes of gardening and springtime. Pay no attention to any other window tabs you may see. I was umm... holding them for a friend.

See how hard I work? Mostly...

Six word blog for today

Inspired by Smith Magazine's Six Word Memoir project, I'm going to write only six words for today's blog post. It makes me laugh realize that I've gone way over already but the the six words start..... now:

Passover week. Reflection time? Nope, naps.

My inspiration

Adrian and I first met in 1984 when we were both 17. He was funny and shy but not as smart as he thought he was. I was on the path to becoming the woman I am today. He inspired me to keep a daily diary and I never stopped even to this very day. As spotty as my blogging has become, I still write in a hard copy diary every single day. Because of him.

We hung out together a lot. I admired his many failed attempts at genius. He always said he was an intellectual but not very clever. He kept me company throughout our teens. When I felt pathetic, sad, angry, lonely, misunderstood or just plain teen-angsty, we got together and he understood because he was there too. We walked together through it all and was there for me every step of the way with a hilariously clueless quip or terrible (terrible) novel that made me laugh long into the night.

There were so many funny episodes. Like the time his dog when crazy on Bonfire Night and ate a bunch of army men when it was locked in the shed. And I'll never forget the time Adrian went to the British Museum with his class. Classic.

We'd touch base from time to time as we grew up. We even got married around the same time, him to Jojo and me to Scott. I cried (sometimes with laughter) at the chapter of his life when got diagnosed with prostate cancer. We've been through so much together. I always wished he was real because I knew we'd be best friends.

Did I forget to mention that Adrian Mole is a fictional character? Oh yeah. He's a figment of Sue Townsend's imagination. She died on Thursday and I cried. We spent such a great deal of my youth together. I read everything she ever wrote, even if it wasn't about my best buddy Adrian. I'm very very sorry she died at the young age of 68 and I selfishly won't be able to read anything new of hers. That said, this tragedy is going to get me to do something I've been meaning to do for ages and read all the Adrian books over again and rediscover her other books as well. In that respect, it's going to be a great year.

If you want to do yourself the ultimate favour and read some of her books, here are some suggest:ions:

The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4 (and its sequels)
The Queen and I ("Have you an ix?")
Rebuilding Coventry
The Woman Who Went to Bed For a Year

Thank you, Sue for making me laugh when I felt unsure of myself and making it okay to be a nerd waaaaay back when being a nerd could earn you "a kicking". When I was a kid, you started me on a path to writing and look! I kept going until this very blog. It's all on you, lady.

@ 2:01 today I...

was letting Archie distract me while Scott and I discussed how to rearrange the basement furniture into optimal man-cave status.

Looka dat face.

Hm. Couches over here?

Or over here? And look... Archie is helping!

We ultimately decided on new couches entirely since those are old, gross, and 2 love seats don't fit five adults anyway. Whee! A shopping trip...

Shoes! Shoes! Shoes!

I love them so much. But I don't think that's a stretch since I'm a woman. Then again, I'm not so crazy about chocolate so don't quote me on that stereotype.

So I wanted to write about shoes today and out of curiosity I put the word "shoes" in the search box above my blog and I sure got a lot of hits. To say the least, I kinda like the things. Quite a bit. Here are a few photos I've posted over the years:

Ghetto shopping (trying on with no intention of buying)

Walking in my first pair of Louboutins

This was my screensaver for years

In London, never happier

Getting rid of some old friends

Another day, another ghetto shopping trip

Audrey will literally learn at the feet of the master...

These are my own Louboutins. I actually own them. They were a birthday present. Le sigh...

Err... this one speaks for itself

Shoes (I mean feet) resting in Belgium. (see Audrey is learning)

My favourite TARDIS blue cons

These gorgeous Fendis live in Las Vegas

My first (of 12 as of today) pair of Converse. A gateway shoe?

My shoe closet. There is another just like it above. I told you I like 'em...

One of my favourite Facebook profile pictures

Snowshoes count as shoes. Because I said so, that's why

How can I explain my love affair with shoes? I can't. I only know that there are times when going to the shoe store is the highlight of a weekend that could have included a restaurant meal or 80s retro hairband concert. I only need to try them on and walk around a bit. They don't need to be expensive. I'm just as happy in the shoe section of Giant Tiger or Payless as I am ghetto shopping at Holt's or The Bay.

Scott often asks me why so many pairs. Well, that's an easy one. Different shoes for different situations. For instance, I have the most pairs of black shoes. For me, high heels go with very fancy dressing like weddings and expensive dinners. Medium height can be for casual dressing like for a house party. Then there's work and walking around. Pointed flats, rounded toe flats, maryjanes, sneakers, Converse... You can never have enough. And of course my favourite pair is always the last pair I bought. Which brings me to the next paragraph.

It was a spur of the moment thing (like it usually is, if I'm honest). I was at the Mall for something else and as usual Payless called me. As I turned down the size 9 aisle, these gorgeous little babies did a jitterbug all over my heart. All I could picture was me wearing the hell out of them at ukulele night. I couldn't just leave them there, it would have been cruel.

Sweet!

Tell me about your favourite shoes.

@2:01 today I...

was at the Dollar Tree trying to get some fun stuff for the kids to do in my class for Passover. I thought that tomorrow we'd talk about the 10 plagues of Egypt complete with visual aids. I most look forward to demonstrating the water to blood (red food dye) and the darkness (black painted sunglasses). We are going to have a ball tomorrow!

So many crappy choices!
