I haven't forgotten about you!

I've been swamped and a bit stressy with home stuff, work stuff and life stuff but it should die down (a bit) by the end of next week. I'll reward you all for your patience with a long juicy update blog full of links and photos, I promise. In the meantime, here is the 2:01 photo from yesterday. I had just come home from work and was giving Scott (and Archie) an update on the day. Five minutes after this was taken I had to rush off to the dentist. Sigh...

**************

Okay... Google is acting douchey and I can't wait around for my photos to sync. See? This is what I'm talking about. Will this shit ever end? Please enjoy this photo of an angry clown instead because this is how I feel right now.

PS: Wouldn't you know it, the photo finally came up. Argh!

at 2:01 today I...

was watching tv.

Even on great work days like the one I had today, when I get home I need to decompress. I flopped onto the couch and switched on the tv, looking through the guide for something relaxing. So Maury Povich was out. I scroll through and saw "The Joy Of..." squashed in a 30 minute grid on the PBS station. I quickly thought it would be "Sex" but realized it was PBS. And not pledge drive time.

Oooh! Maybe it was "Cooking" and Julia Child would teach me to make something old-school like a flaming pudding or something in a jelly mould. There was only one way to find out...

I switch it over and it was "Painting". With Bob Ross. Could I ask for anything calmer? For thirty minutes I watched him paint "happy little mountains" and "happy little trees" with a palate knife. His soothing voice made my tension float away. Fantastic.

I was still dopey with imagined paint fumes when the next show came on. Which was why I was giggling so hard as a sweet looking little old lady told the most insane story about an 1800s woman who made underwear out of a gunny sack (your guess is as good as mine) and sewed money into them. She had to go to the bathroom to take them off and get the money out when she was shopping at the feed store. Or something. I was laughing too hard to hear. It was a show about quilting if you couldn't tell from the photo.

Here is the sweet little old dear. She was so breathy and enthusiastic, I couldn't help but love her. For a while, anyway, until all her talk about stitching in ditches made me want to throw things. But it sure made for an interesting 2:01...

Ottawa Comic-con

Okay, I bored people enough on Facebook about this fantastic event and this blog is linked to my page so some of you will be getting this a second third fourth (?) time. To those people, I'm sorry. A little. Listen... I have no one to talk nerdy with in my real life. No one gets me at work, the girls I paddle with are mentally mature and my family is close but only nerd adjacent. I have nowhere to go but here.

To spare those who have seen them, I'll only post my one favourite photo from each day and one extra because it's my blog and I can do what I want. Here goes...

Day 1. In our first lineup of the day. You can't tell but I'm "DisneyBounding" Princess Tiana which is casual dress Disney characters. Google it...

Day 2. My friend Sean and his friend Phil cosplaying The Tick and Bob Ross. The amount of attention they got was incredible. I LOVED walking the floor with them.

Day 3. OMG, This man *made* my childhood I was so thrilled to meet the artist who draws Archie Comics.

Me and Elliott in the photo booth. It was the best 3 days of my life with my kid.

See? Painless. I think I'll drop it for now. For now. Like I said, this is my only outlet...

At 2:01 today I...

Zzzzzz...

Well, this speaks for itself, doesn't it? I was suffering from a bout of insomnia and I was trying to make up for it by grabbing a quick nap between work and dragonboat practice. So I didn't appreciate when the alarm went off to take this goddamn picture, thankyouverymuch.

My Origin Story

Inspired by superheroes' origin stories (just wait a couple of days and you'll see my Comic-con pictures) I thought I'd tell you the 2 high school events that made me the woman I am today.

1)  The time my grade 9 English teacher (who was also the school drama teacher) forced me to take a bit part in her play Oliver Twist. I still remember how nauseated but exhilarated I felt when I burst onstage to deliver the first of my 12 lines: "Wait, Stop! Please don't take that boy away! Stop this moment!" This part of my origin story gave me the love of acting and drama.

2) The time the coolest girl in school cut in front of me in a line for a manicure (which, of course closed after she went). Incredibly, to make up for it, she invited me to hang out with the cool kids that day. I never left their group and to this day I say that grade 11 (1984) was the best year of my life. This adventure taught me not to make assumptions about people and that everyone deserves a chance to show you their true colours. Plus it gave me the supreme confidence to walk up to just about anyone and strike up a conversation.

If it wasn't for these two relatively small things that happened to me, I'm sure I'd be quite a different person. Of course there are other events that shaped me as well like a few belt spankings (well, it was the 70s after all) and flunking out of college but those stories aren't as fun to tell. And a little depressing, frankly. So I guess you'll have to wait to read about them my memoirs...

PS:  I'm not planning to write my memoirs

At 2:01 today I...

was realizing that maybe summer might finally come. It was actually double digits "warm" today (15C... but still cold in the shade and in the wind). Still not to my exacting standards of warmth (25+C, stanky humidity... I seriously LOVE that kind of weather) but better than the -15C it was just a couple of weeks ago.

God, I can't believe I just blogged about the weather.

Again?

On our commute this morning, I got a photo of this stellar driver having breakfast.

In case you are wondering, I'm in the passenger seat. Scott was driving.

It's hard to tell but trust me. She was eating something like salad off a plate with a fricking fork.

I'm shocked at how many times I see this. I don't begrudge you having a sandwich, doughnut or coffee but please, please people, when you start using utensils and a plate while operating a vehicle, I have to draw the line.

I don't even care if they see my taking their photo anymore.
