A picture an hour? Sounded like fun at the time...

Last week I took a photo an hour for a day from 2pm to 6pm (skipping 10 to 7 because, frankly, interrupting my REM sleep to amuse you wasn't part of the plan). So sit back, relax and enjoy all that I do in an average day.

2pm: I just sat down to check my important emails. Okay, I was reading Buzzfeed or something.

3pm: Time to watch my favourite podcasters do a video. It was so cool to put faces to the voices.

4pm: I spend a little time with my boys.

5pm: I should be cooking dinner but the attention from my boys was so compelling...

6pm: An after dinner uke practice

7pm: Reading magazines. The Time Magazine is right underneath... I swear.

8pm: Prime time not only for tv watching but family too.

9pm: Great! I love loading up the dishwasher just before bed. Yes, I said bed. I've become my mother.

7am: Up with the lark so get ready for my bright shiny day.

8am: Dropping off Audrey at school in time for band practice

9am: Just about to start work

11am: Cleaning. They did a great job using all our resources. That's teacher-speak for making a mess. I clearly missed the 10am alarm from having too much fun. More teacher-speak?

12pm: Here's what I do at noon. I grab my fleece and head out.

1pm: Off to Costco I go. Pay no attention to the shit in my cart. My advice to you: never shop while hungry.

2pm: Second location. I usually go to 4 places on shopping day. Ugh.

3pm: Time to put everything away.

4pm: More cleaning. This time the stuff that doesn't fit in the dishwasher.

5pm: Making something sweet with leftover quiche pastry. Cinnamon roll thingies. They came out great. I may just make them without having to make a quiche in the first place.

6pm: Stupid alarm woke me up from my nap. Hey, I deserve it. I'm old and I had a busy day.

Well, that was easy.

I've been waffling back and forth about who to vote for in the upcoming election. I'm not a fan of the current government so I've been shopping the other parties. I really wasn't sure between them so I've been using website questionnaires and quizzes and actually listening to every robocall I get.

The other night I got a call from the Liberal party that made my decision easy. It was the leader, Justin Trudeau, asking me to come to a rally. Normal enough but at the very end of the call there was a clunk and a baby squeal. He clearly taped the call in his house with one of his kids (who's about 2) playing nearby. I love it. The mental image of him in his kitchen, trying to make this call between blowing bubbles on his kid's belly, won my vote. Plus he's kinda dreamy. Who doesn't want that in a leader?

How cute are they?

This is a human tooth.

A human tooth that fell off a shelf above my head while I was reaching for a book at the top of my bedroom dresser. I can't imagine how it got there. Because everyone knows I keep all my human teeth in my jewellery box.

After all, I'm not an animal.

On an unrelated note:
If anyone knows what to do with almost 50 baby teeth from 3 different children, let me know. Asking for a friend.

Back to school meanderings...

Like so many people who look back on their time at school, I think of it fondly. Through that Vaseline covered lens that makes even the wrinkly of faces look smooth and lovely again. Even the time I got punched in the face or had to excuse myself from Mr. Vasil's economics class because I got my period. Ah, the good times.

I'm now watching my own kids get ready for school themselves (2 in high school one in college) and wonder what soul-crushing or humiliating things they'll remember 31 years from now. Hopefully they'll be tempered by the amazing memories. Like my first ever line in a play, onstage, in front of everybody: "Wait! Stop! Please don't take that boy away... stop one moment!!" (Oliver Twist), and the day I got a note shoved in my locker by the coolest girl in class, asking me to hang out with her and her friends (ohmygodohmygod...)

Whatever they remember or however they recall their high school days, I have to try not to feel left out when they don't share that stuff with me. I never did with my parents and just because I think I'm the "cool mum" doesn't mean they tell me anything, worse luck. I just hope they have good friends to talk to and an outlet somewhere to vent. All that to say that I wish them the best this school year and I hope it's memorable in every sense of the word.
